2010 Varsity & Junior Varsity Playoff Rules

  1. Varsity League Playoffs will take place at Wildcat Lanes on Saturday, 13 Feb. 2010. Varsity boys and varsity girls will bowl at the same time at 8:00 am. Check-in for both squads will be at 7:30 am. Doors will open at 7:00 am for check-in. Junior Varsity squads will at Wildcat Lanes on Sunday, 14 Feb. 2010. JV girls will bowl at 8:00 am, check-in at 7:30, doors open at 7:15 am. JV boys will bowl at 1:00 pm, check-in at 12:30 pm.
  2. Format: Varsity teams will bowl 4 regular games and 6 baker's games, rotating lanes after each game. JV will bowl 3 baker's games. Starting lane assignments will be determined by a drawing at check in. Even lanes will move one pair right, odd lanes will move one pair left. Total pin fall will be used. No bonus points. Cut will be made to top four teams after baker's games. Lanes will be redone for all 2nd squads. No carryover to finals. Lanes for finals and practice will be announced.
    • The Championship finals will be a seeded bakers stepladder format with 4 vs 3, w vs 2, w vs 1 for Championship.
    • Championship format qualifier will be the winner of the best two (2) out of three (3) bakers games. Not total pins.
    • Higher seed picks starting lane.
    • In the event of ties, one (1) complete bakers game will determine qualifier or winner.
  3. Trophies and individual medals awarded to top 4 teams.
  4. Playoff scholarship money will be awarded as follows:
    • 1st place team Varsity-$500.00 Junior Varsity-$300.00
    • 2nd place team Varsity-$300.00 Junior Varsity-$100.00
    • High Series (1st team All Playoff team Captain) Varsity-$100.00 Junior Varsity-$50.00
    • High Game Varsity-$100.00 Junior Varsity-$50.00
    • All 1st team All Playoff teams, Captain $50.00, all others $25.00 based on 1st 3 games series.
    • All 1st team All Metro Teams are based on season average, minimum of 13 games bowled in League, $50.00 for captain, $25.00 for others.
    • This is the 6th year for scholarships for All Playoff and All Metro Teams. High series and high game cannot be earned by the same bowler. High series is awarded first. Only bowlers who have competed in the Metro League during the 2009 - 2010 season are eligible to compete in the Playoffs. No new bowlers are allowed.
    • The winning recipients must fill out the MHSBCA paperwork and turn in the 2nd copy to the playoff office before leaving. Keep the original for your records.
      NEW THIS YEAR: Funds will be held in a Smart Account which will be set up through the Greater Omaha Area Bowling Association. Recipients can apply for their funds after their graduation. Awarded scholarships expire after six years from graduation. Bowlers should be able to check with Smart after the account is set up. We will continue to keep our records for our use only and as a backup if needed.
  5. We request bowling rosters be submitted for data entry and record keeping at check in.
  6. Playing strength is 5 bowlers at all times; rosters may contain up to 8 players. 2009 MHSBCA League rules will apply.
  7. Subs will be allowed from other teams with extra bowlers. JV bowlers may be moved up to Varsity and will still be eligible to bowl in the JV Playoffs. A new certification card must be filled out if not already done.
  8. Varsity bowlers cannot bowl in Junior Varsity Playoffs except in emergency and approved by Playoff Director.
  9. Vacant scores (according to MHSBCA 2009 League Rule 14: JV Boys = 150, JV Girls = 110, Varsity Boys = 160, Varsity Girls = 140) are to be used for teams that are short of bowlers.
  10. Scoring for absent baker's games is as follows: JV Boys = (5) spare in each "open" frame, JV Girls = (1) spare in each "open" frame, V Boys = (6) spare in each "open" frame, and V Girls = (4) spare in each "open" frame.
  11. Tardy bowlers will be allowed to compete prior to the completion of the 5th frame of any regular game.
  12. Subs are not allowed during a game except in the case of an extreme accident or injury. Line-up changes may be done for subsequent games and not during any baker's games. All bakers games must keep the same beginning rotation during that game. You cannot change the lineup or rotation during a bakers game.
  13. This is the completion of the Metro League season. All League rules and dress codes are still in place.
  14. All players, coaches, and spectators are expected to behave in a positive manner. Abusive behavior and or gestures will not be tolerated. ALL cell phones, IPODS, and any other electronic devices ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE BOWLING AREA DURING COMPETITION. Violation of this rule may result in a player or team being ejected from the playoffs. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED. We are here to bowl.
  15. Only players, two (2) coaches per team, and the playoff officials are allowed in the bowling area. All other spectators, boyfriends, girlfriends or others must remain behind the bowling area.
  16. Any rule not covered here will be settled in accordance to U.S.B.C. Rules.
